OKARA Former district president of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and its candidate for provincial assembly in 2013 election Chaudhry Azhar Mehmood died of the Covid-19 on Sunday. He was 54.

The deceased was laid to rest in native Chak 2/4-L. He remained the union council nazim. He worked a lot to strengthen the PTI in the district and was elevated to the slot of the district president of the party. He is survived by a widow, two sons and a daughter.

Meanwhile, poet and columnist Kiran Waqar also died of the coronavirus in a Lahore hospital some days back.

Her mother had also succumbed to the Covid-19 days before her death while her younger brother, Rana Zohaib Ali, had died of the coronavirus recently. The literary circles of the city termed her death a big loss for literature and poetry. Kiran was popular in the mushairas due to natural style of reciting poetry.

She was the mother of a minor daughter.

RETRIEVED: Rescue 1122 retrieved the body of a man who had drowned in the River Sutlej near his village Head Sulemanky two days back. The victim, Muhammad Yaqoob, had gone to the river as a routine along with his cattle when he drowned.
