HYDERABAD: Two members of the Leghari community were shot dead by assailants riding a motorcycle near Miani forests within the jurisdiction of the Hatri police station on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Akbar, son of Manthar, and Ghulam Hyder, son of Saeed Khan.

According to the police, they had come to a court for the hearing of their case and were attacked while they were returning to Hala. Their case pertained to an old enmity with some fellow community members, the police added.

Protesting against the attack, relatives of the victims blocked a section of the National Highway in Hala but police got the thoroughfare cleared by persuading them to end their protest.

Matiari police believed that the suspected killers of Akbar and Ghulam Hyder were presently living in Thatta. The enmity between the two sides had been going on since the ’90s, they said.

Reports from Hala suggested that the assailants might have avenged a murder allegedly by the victims about six months ago.
