KASUR: Police gunned down an alleged robber and took another into custody on Saturday at Steel Bagh Chowk.

Police claimed that two suspected robbers on a motorcycle snatched Rs8,000 from Muhammad Javaid at gunpoint on Shahbaz Khan road.

Later, they snatched Rs31,000 from Umar Farooq at Bhatta Chowk and moved towards Steel Bagh Chowk. When the suspects tried to intercept a passerby at the intersection, locals raised an alarm.

The people then caught one of the robbers, roughed him up and then reluctantly handed him over to police as they wanted to ‘punish’ him themselves.

Meanwhile, police were called at 15 that chased the other suspect. Police claimed the suspect opened fire on them that was retaliated and claimed his life.

According to police, the deceased robber was identified as Shahbaz of Daroghawala, Lahore, while the one in custody was Shahzad of Sandha.

Police shifted the body to DHQ hospital and started an investigation.
