BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has ordered the health authorities to provide free-of-cost treatment to a 10-year-old girl who has been suffering from a face disease since her birth.

According to a handout on Tuesday, he took notice of the girl’s disease when her video clips got viral on social media on Monday. The chief minister directed Bahawalpur Deputy Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia to meet the girl, Maryam.

The DC met Maryam and her father, Muhammad Riaz, on Tuesday and assured them of treatment by the government. He also gave gifts to the girl on behalf of the CM.

The DC said a medical board would be constituted to submit its recommendations to CM Buzdar.

SECRETARIAT: The South Punjab secretariat in Bahawalpur requires 60 to 70 acres land along the city.

This was stated by South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) retired Captain Saqib Zafar while talking to Dawn, prior to his departure for Multan.

The ACS confirmed that during his one-day stay, the district administration showed a state land measuring about 50 acres belonging to the agriculture department along the Karachi Bypass.

He asked the officials concerned to look for a bigger piece of land, comprising at least 60 to 70 acre in the vicinity of the city.

He said the proposed secretariat would have the offices buildings and residences of the government officials for which a vast tract of land was needed.

Mr Zafar hoped that after finalisation of the land soon, construction of the building would start.

Regarding the function of the SP Secretariat, the ACS said the work of the posted departmental secretaries would be streamlined to provide maximum facilities to the people of the Bahawalpur division.

CLEANLINESS: The district administration, in coordination with Bahawalpur Waste Management Company (BWMC), launched a cleanliness campaign for a week, calling it ‘service at your doorstep’.

DC Irfan Ali Kathia, along with BWMC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Naeem Akhtar, inaugurated the week.
