QUETTA: Eight coalminers suffered serious burn injuries inside a mine in the Duki area of Balochistan.

The miners were working deep inside their coalmine on Monday night when an explosion took place.

Mines Inspector Sabir Shah said the incident took place in a coal mine owned by a private company a portion of which collapsed due to the explosion, causing release of methane gas.

After the blast, eight miners were trapped deep inside the mine, he said. However, all miners were subsequently rescued and taken to district hospital in Duki, he added.

Mr Shah said three of the miners were later referred to a hospital in Quetta because of their serious condition.

The injured miners were identified as Abdul Ghaffar, Matiullah, Manzoor, Siddique, Nimatullah, Bahaullah, Naik Mohammad and Sabir Shah.
