Covid-19 claims 10 more lives in twin cities

ISLAMABAD: As many as 10 people died of Covid-19 in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Friday.

The capital also reported 617 new cases while 197 cases emerged in Rawalpindi.

Officials in Islamabad saidtwo males in the age group of 30-39 and 50-59 and one female in the age group of 80-89succumbed to the virus.They were residents of G-11, E-11 and H-15.

During the last 24 hours, 4,713 tests were conducted in the capital out of which 346 males and 271 females were found infected with the positivity rate of 13 per cent.

The officials said 139 cases were reported in the age group of 30-39 followed by106 each in 20-29 and 40-49, 74 in 50-59, 56 each in 0-9 and 60-69, 39 in 10-19, 26 in 70-79 and 14 in 80 and above.

Likewise, 42 cases were reported from Loi Bher, 28 from Bhara Kahu, 27 from G-9, 26 from Tarlai, 25 from G-10, 24 from G-11, 23 from G-7, 22 each from G-6, I-8, 21 from E-11, 20 from F-6, 17 from Rawat, 14 each from G-13, Khanna, 13 each from F-10, Alipur, 12 each from I-10, F-8, 11 each from F-11, Sohan, 10 from G-8, nine each from Chak Shahzad, Sihala, eight from Kurri, seven from I-9, six each from F-7, G-5, four each from G-15, D-12, I-14, three each from Chirrah, Koral, Rawal Town, Saidpur. The addresses of 95 positive cases were not known.

Islamabad reports three deaths and 617 new cases

Rawalpindi

Seven people died and 197 others tested positive of the deadly virus in Rawalpindi district.

Haji Saeed Ahmed, 72 years old, a resident of Saidpur Road, was brought to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology on March 29 where he died.

Razia Bibi, 80, a resident of Kahuta, was hospitalised at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on April 22 where she died.

Anjum Sultana, 58, of Lalazar Tulsa Road, also died at Pims where she was admitted on April 22.

Sarwar Jan, 63, a resident of Gujar Khan, was admitted to Pims on April 22 where he also died.

Wasma Azra, 72 years old, a resident of Kohistan Enclave Wah Cantonment, was brought to Quaid-i-Azam International Hospital on April 22 where she died on Friday.

Razia Begum, 86, a resident of Gulshanabad Adiala Road, was brought to Isolation Hospital and Infectious Treatment Centre on April 22 where she died.

Shamim Akhter, 70, a resident of Murree, also died at Pims where she was brought on April 22.

In the district, there are 2,778 active patients - 887 in hospitals and 1,891 home isolated. Moreover, 655 patients are waiting for the results of their Covid-19 serology.

As many as 152 of the new patients reported from the garrison city - 44 from the cantonment, 43 from Potohar Town and 65 from Rawal Town.

Besides, nine patients came from Gujar Khan, 12 from Taxila, two each from Kallar Syedan and Kotli Sattian, 10 patients from Islamabad, three from Chakwal, two from AJK and one each from Murree, Jhelum, Attock, Gujrat and Quetta.

Of the new patients, 29 are admitted in Holy Family Hospital, 20 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), three in District Headquarters Hospital, 118 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU), 28 patients in Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH) and three in Hearts International Hospital.

Additional Commissioner Coordination Jahangir Ahmed told Dawn that there were 18 patients on ventilators, 119 on oxygen and 61 were stable.

Attock

The number of Covid-19 patients in Attock surged to 1,856 as 19 more people tested positive on Friday.

District focal person for Covid-19 Kashif Hussain said among the new patients eight belonged to Attock city, six to Hassanabdal, three to Hazro and two to Pindigheb. There are 299 active patients in the district and 293 of them are home isolated and six hospitalised.

He said so far 1,522 patients have recovered from the disease in the district. — Additional reporting by Amjad Iqbal
