LAHORE: Mian Mahmud Ali Kasuri, MNA elect and Vice-Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party, today [April 24] expressed the view that power could be temporarily transferred in the provinces of West Pakistan and its mechanism could be evolved through mutual discussion. He was of the opinion that situation in East Pakistan was entirely different from that of other provinces because there the majority party had been banned and it would take some time to normalise the situation there.

Addressing a press conference this afternoon, Mian Kasuri said it would have been better if power could be transferred to the people’s representatives all over the country but simultaneous transfer in all the provinces was not a constitutional or political imperative.

He believed the transfer of power at the national level could take place only if the elected representatives of the people of East and West could sit together to reach an agreement. He said action had been taken against Shaikh Mujibur Rahman not because he had won the elections but because he had indulged in anti-State activities.
