ISLAMABAD: The federal capital was placed on high alert while security of VVIPs, VIPs, diplomats and Chinese nationals was further tightened in the wake of intelligence reports that terrorists might strike in the city.

Security was also tightened around important installations, hospitals and religious places.

Senior police officers told Dawn on condition of anonymity that CPO Islamabad had written letters to DIGs Security, Operations and Headquarters, AIG Special Branch, SSPs Operations, Traffic, Security, Logistics and CTD and asked them to maintain strict vigilance and upgrade security for personalities and installations.

The CPO directed them to be on high alert at all checkposts and points and identify and intercept suspicious people and vehicles, the officers added.
