FAISALABAD: After the death of an under-trial prisoner few days after he was injured by a fellow inmate, an inquiry committee has been formed to determine the facts.
The deputy inspector general (prisons), Saeedullah Gonda, has appointed district jail superintendent Asghar Ali as an inquiry officer with a direction to submit the report within two days.
Under-trial prisoner Abid Ali was seriously injured by Abdul Ghani of Chak 433-GB, Samundari on April 22 last. The jail officials shifted Ali to the DHQ hospital in a serious condition but he breathed his last on Wednesday.
On the complaint of deputy superintendent jail Kamran Siddique, a case under section 324 of the PPC has also been registered against Ghani.
The jail administration got registered the case three days after the incident and alleged that Ghani had subjected Ali to torture with kicks and fists when he was asleep in the barrack. Ali fainted and was shifted to the jail hospital.
The deputy superintendent said that other two inmates of the barrack informed the jail staff about the incident.
Ghani was imprisoned in the jail on charges of murder and possession of illegal weapon.
The DIG asked the superintendent to probe the issue and submit a comprehensive report within two days and also fix the responsibility of the delinquent jail staff (if any) to proceed accordingly.
