LAHORE: PML-N President and opposition leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif has demanded an “independent investigation” into the allegations of former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) chief Bashir Memon against Prime Minister Imran Khan and his close aides for pressurising him to institute a case of money laundering against Supreme Court judge Justice Faez Isa.

“The startling revelations by former DG FIA (Bashir Memon) have endorsed what I have been saying for a long time: there is an unmistakable NAB-Niazi nexus that has been out to make forged cases against the PMLN & put its leaders behind bars. The farce stands exposed,” Shehbaz said in a tweet on Wednesday.

The opposition leader has recently been released from jail after seven months in a money laundering case registered by NAB.

Shehbaz said the revelations of Mr Memon showed how this man (Imran Khan) tried to cause anarchy in this country only to satiate his false ego. He said the characters involved should not escape punishment.

Mr Memon in a TV interview had alleged that he was pressurised by Imran Khan, minister Naseem Farough and adviser to PM Shahzad Akbar to initiate a case against Justice Qazi Faez Isa. Memon’s allegations, however, were denied by the government officials.

FOREIGN POLICY: Shehbaz Sharif says strong foreign policy is needed to resolve the Kashmir dispute.

Talking to the party’s lawmakers at his residence here on Wednesday, he chided the Imran Khan government for its failure to procure Covid-19 vaccine in time.

He asked the lawmakers to go to their constituencies and ask the people to observe coronavirus SOPs. Veteran leader Javed Hashmi, Mushahid Hussain Syed and Muhammad Mehdi were among those called on Shehbaz.
