HYDERABAD: Family sources of former FIA director general Bashir Memon on Thursday claimed that personnel of a civilian intelligence agency and officials of the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) visited his lands and industrial unit in Matiari and Sanghar districts, to collect some information.

Officials of the PSQCA, that works under the federal ministry of science and technology, visited the oil and ghee factory owned by Mr Memon’s family on Thursday, according to the family sources.

Mr Memon has been running different businesses, particularly in the agriculture sector, for a long time.

PSQCA officials visited Al-Mujtaba Oil and Ghee Mills in Shahdadpur, Sanghar district, and asked about the licence to run the factory. The staff present at the factory told them that the licence issue was in court. The officials made some other queries and left, the staff said.

The sources revealed that personnel of a federal civil intelligence agency had also visited farmland of Mr Memon in Matiari and Sanghar districts.

They were informed that the Memon family was growing banana and mangoes. When the labourers present there were asked to share details of his land, they stated that Mr Memon owned the land since 1973, when his grandfather transferred it in his name.

The family sources believed that the sudden and unexpected visits by the officials were linked with the recent revelations by the former FIA chief about federal government’s alleged pressure on him with regard to Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s assets case.
