SWABI: The relatives of a victim of a firing incident blocked the Swabi-Jehangira Road here on Wednesday to protest alleged refusal of doctors at the district headquarters hospital to conduct autopsy on the body.

Earlier in the day, rivals had shot dead Zar Wali Khan over a property dispute in Gajju Khan area, the family members said, adding they brought the body for autopsy to the district headquarters hospital, but the doctors refused, arguing that the area did not fall in their jurisdiction.

The relatives said the doctors told them that they should take the body to Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor, for the purpose.

The refusal enraged the family members of the deceased and they took the body to the busy Swabi-Jehangira Road and placed it there in protest.

The protest caused traffic congestion on the road.

SHO Swabi city police station Ajab Durrani said the district administration officials talked with both the doctors and the bereaved family members and resolved the issue.

Later, doctors at the DHQ hospital conducted the autopsy.

FIRE PUT OUT: Firefighters took over four hours to put out a fire that broke out in a garbage dump near the Tarbela Dam’s switchyard on Tuesday night, officials said.

The fire tenders of the Gadoon Industrial Estate, the Rescue 1122 and the dam took part in the operation.

“The firefighters faced problems because of mountainous terrain and the fast blowing wind which caused the blaze to spread to more areas near the dam’s switchyard,” said an official. However, he said the firefighters managed to prevent the fire from reaching any section of the project. Officials said the dam authorities would investigate the issue as to who threw waste near the switchyard area and how the garbage caught fire.
