BAHAWALPUR: As many as 14 Covid vaccination centres have been made functional for the people in the district.
This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia while opening a centre at government girls higher secondary school, Satellite Town, here on Thursday.
The centre has also been provided with a field hospital to tackle any emergency case of Covid-19.
The other centres are: special education centre on Jhangiwali Road, Bahawalpur, government Tibbia college, government girls higher secondary school, Model Town A, tehsil headquarters hospitals at Ahmedpur East, Yazman, Khairpur Tamewali, population office, Ahmedpur East, tehsil municipal office, Hasilpur, MC hall Yazman, deputy district office, Khairpur Tamewali, Bahawal Victoria Hospital and civil hospital, Bahawalpur.
The health officials told the DC that the people of the prescribed aged groups visited the centres and cooperated with the duty staff. The DC directed the health officials to take care of the elderly people visiting the centres for their vaccination.
Meanwhile, district officer (preventive services) Dr.Tariq Mehmood said six vaccination centres had been reserved for front line health workers in the district. He asked the people to get themselves registered by sending an SMS on 1166.
SHOPPING RUSH: With the announcement of lockdown with effect from May 8 by the Punjab government, people in large numbers thronged bazaars and shopping plazas.
The traffic police personnel deployed at main crossings appeared to be unable to tackle and control the increasing vehicular movement.
E-LIBRARY: The E-library existing in the building of Dring Stadium would be named after great Sufi saint Khwaja Ghulam Farid.
This was announced by DC Irfan Ali Kathia during inspection of the library on Thursday.
He paid rich tributes to Khwaja Farid and said that a corner in the existing library would be named after other saints. This corner would have books and literature of the Sufi saints for the guidance of younger generations.
