GILGIT: Five people were killed when a car they were travelling in plunged into a deep ravine in Diamer district on Thursday.

According to police, five men were going to Deral valley from Chilas when their car fell into a deep ravine near Bushi Das. The victims belonging to Deral valley of Diamer died on the spot and their bodies were taken to a hospital in Chilas.

The police said the incident occurred due to speeding in the hilly area.

In another accident, at least 10 people were injured when a coaster collided with a truck on Karakoram Highway near Bunar Das area in Diamer.

The coaster (JF-5679) was en route to Astore from Rawalpindi.

All the injured belonged to Astore district. They were taken to a hospital in Chilas where their condition was stated to be stable.

TOURISM BAN: The Gilgi-Baltistan government on Thursday imposed a complete ban on tourism activities across the region from May 8 to 16.

According to a notification, the GB home department, under GB Epidemic Disease (prevention and control) Ordinance 2020, has decided to impose a complete ban on tourism activities from May 8 to May 16, including Eid holidays, in line with the decision made by NCOC, Islamabad.

It said that tourist spots, resorts and hotels and motels in and around the tourist spots would remain closed across the region.

It directed strict compliance of the decision by all hotels, motels and guest houses. In this regard, a notice has also been issued for cancellation of all hotel bookings during the days.

Meanwhile, a Chinese national living in Hunza for last few months withouta valid visa was detained at Khunjerab top, according to police.

They said he was trying to cross the border into China when officials arrested him. He was later shifted to Aliabad Hunza police station for investigations.
