KOHAT: A proclaimed offender surrendered to the police after the latter laid a siege to his hujra during an intelligence-based operation here on Friday.

The outlaw, the officials said was wanted in cases of murder, extortion and attacks on the police.

The police also recovered five hand grenades, a gun, a Kalashnikov, a pistol, six chargers and 112 cartridges from the hideout.

The police shifted him to an unknown place under tight security for investigation.

A team led by Shakardarra SHO Fareed Khan carried out the raid. The officials said the outlaw had been changing hideouts in Punjab and different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for a decade to avoid arrest.

They said lately he had come from Punjab to Shakardarra.

They said the PO handed himself to the police after some resistance.

In a separate development, the district administration enforced section 144 for 30 days banning swimming in rivers, dams, firing in the air and sale of toy guns.

In a notification issued on Friday, deputy commissioner Abdur Rehman said taking of photos along the rivers and dams and one-wheeling had also been banned.

He said the order was meant to protect life and property of people.

He said the violators would be proceeded against under Section 188.

Also on Friday, the Orakzai district administration and prayer leaders agreed on implementation of a ban on tourism activities, firing in the air and ensuring strict enforcement of SOPs against the Covid-19 pandemic during the Eid holidays.

Assistant commissioner, Upper Orakzai, Adnan Ahmed, during a meeting with ulema, urged them to educate the people about the importance of observing SOPs.

The prayer leaders promised to make available masks and hand santisers in mosques for the faithful.
