HYDERABAD, Oct 21: Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s zonal in-charge Siraj Rajput has said that the party is setting up a tent city for earthquake-affected people who will get free ration till Eid.

He said under instructions from MQM chief Altaf Hussain relief goods valued at Rs50 million were being dispatched through seven railway bogies.

He was speaking at a news conference at the office of the Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation here on Friday.

Joint zonal in-charge Nadeem Shaikh, a member of the zonal committee, Rashid Khilji and Amiruddin of the KKF were present on the occasion.

Mr Rajput said the KKF was sending a 20-member medical team to affected areas including two professor surgeons.

He said that under instructions from the MQM chief, the members of the coordination committee, MQM’s federal ministers and office-bearers would celebrate Eidul Fitr with the earthquake victims in the affected areas while others would celebrate Eid in a simple manner.

He said that till October 15, the MQM had dispatched relief goods valued at Rs75 million while on Thursday evening relief goods valued at Rs25 million were also sent for the earthquake victims in four railway bogies.

He said that relief goods valued at Rs25 million would be dispatched in three railway bogies tonight.

He said that from Islamabad these goods would be taken to the MQM camps for onward distribution among the quake victims.

He said that on the appeal of the MQM chief, the people donated a huge quantity of edibles, dry ration, warm clothing so much so that the MQM had also handed over a considerable quantity of relief goods to the army in Islamabad for distribution among the affected people.

He said that a large quantity of medicines were also being dispatched to make-shift hospitals set up by the MQM in the affected areas.

He said that ambulances, equipped with operation theatres had also been dispatched.

Mr Rajput said despite rains and snowfall the MQM volunteers after travelling long distances on foot were providing relief to the affected people.

He said that the members of coordination committee, Haq Parast members of assemblies and ministers would celebrate Eid in affected areas with the earthquake victims.

He said that tent cities would be set up in the affected areas where the victims would be given Eid rations and Eid packets which would be dispatched four days before Eid.

Mr Rajput appealed to the people not to donate old clothes but warm clothing and cash donations for purchasing tents, blankets and medicines.

He regretted that following the biggest national tragedy some religious and political parties were still playing politics and boasting that they had sent 400 truckloads of relief goods to the earthquake hit areas.

He wondered how it was possible when the fare of one truck was Rs80,000.

He advised these parties to wait for some opportune movement to play politics.
