GUJRANWALA, Oct 21: Declaring 41 school buildings dangerous, the provincial education department has asked the buildings department to renovate or reconstruct them without delay.
The department had launched a survey of school buildings immediately after the quake.
The Gujranwala executive district officer (education) has conducted a survey of all primary, elementary and secondary schools throughout the district and declared 41 of the buildings dangerous. They include 28 secondary and 13 elementary school buildings.
Officials in the education department claim that they have time and again asked the government and the department concerned to get the buildings repaired or reconstructed, but they had ignored the demand.
It is learnt that most of the newly-constructed buildings of schools also have developed cracks.
Meanwhile, people have demanded that the government should undertake the project of reconstruction.
patwaris sacked: Over a dozen patwaris of Naushera Virkan, recruited a few months back, were sacked on Friday for getting appointments on bogus credentials.
Reports said that Punjab Board of Revenue secretary Chaudhry Nasrullah Chattha reviewed cases of these patwaris and declared their appointments illegal. He ordered immediate termination of these officials and issued a notification to this effect.
Those who have been sacked include Rana Tanvir Ahmad, Rana Zulfikar Ahmad, Imran Asgher, Muhammad Pervaiz, Ziaullah, Hafiz Amanullah, Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Arshad, Ghulam Mustafa, Rana Tariq Ali and Rana Ijaz Ahmad.
TWO COPS INJURED: Two constables were stabbed and injured seriously on Friday when they tried to frisk a criminal in Rakh Kikeranwali village on Ferozewala Road.
Reports said that constables Inayat Butt and Ahmad Raza intercepted Shehzad alias Razer and conducted his body search. Upon being manhandled, he attacked the constables with his knife and injured them critically. They were rushed to the local DHQ Hospital.
However, the police later arrested the accused and registered a case against him.killed: A landlord was stabbed to death by some people over an agricultural land dispute in Kamoki on Friday.
Reports said Jaffar Husain, a resident of Hardo Rai village, was on his way home from fields when his rivals Altaf and his son, Nadeem, stabbed him to death. The assailants escaped.
The Kamoki police have registered a case against the culprits.
