TAXILA: The Punjab Minister for social welfare and Baitul Maal Yawar Boukhari distributed Eid gifts including suits, sweets and other necessary items among the prisoners of Attock jail on Wednesday.

Punjab Assembly member Malik Jamshaid Altaf, Acting Deputy Commissioner Shehryar Arif Khan, Jail Superintendent Farrukh Rasheed, deputy superintendent Afzaal Ahmed Warriach, officials of prisons and social welfare department were also present on the occasion.

Mr Boukhari while speaking on the occasion said the purpose of distributing Eid gifts among the prisoners was to provide them opportunity to participate in the Eid celebrations.

“The path of goodness and benevolence should be adopted,” he added. Mr Boukhari said that the issues of children of prisoners will be resolved on a priority basis.

He asked the jail authorities to devise a proper mechanism, in collaboration with government and non-government organisations, to impart technical skill education to prisoner’s children along with basic education to make them useful citizens of society.

He also asked the authorities concerned to provide technical skills and basic education to the prisoners’ children to ensure that they become productive members of the society.

Speaking on this occasion, Jail Superintendent Farrukh Rasheed appreciated the initiative and lauded efforts of all those involved to make the Eid for the prisoners a happy occasion.
