SWABI: Two persons were killed and eight others injured in different incidents here on Saturday.

Unidentified persons opened fire on one Afireen Khan in Jalsai village. As a result, he was seriously injured and taken to Chota Lahor tehsil headquarters hospital, but did not survive. The cause of the incident was not known.

In another incident, Abdur Raziq of Thano village drowned in the Indus River while bathing. A Rescue 1122 team recovered the body and handed it over to his family.

Zar Khitab and a woman were injured when two motorcycles collided on Chota Lahor village road. In Malikabad, Sher Hassan was injured when an unknown person opened fire on him. On Shewa road, Ibrahim Khan, 18, was hit by a motorcycle, leaving him seriously injured.

Mohammad Hayat was injured when two auto-rickshaws collided near Shewa Adda. One Inamullah Khan was injured in another such incident on Swabi-Jehangira road. Similarly, Ijaz Khan and a woman were injured when their car skidded off the road near Kunda Park.

WHEAT HARVEST: Farmers here said they continued harvesting wheat crop and did not observe Eid holidays so as to complete the task.

The growers and their leaders told this correspondent that any delay in harvest could cause them big losses.

Sirzamin Khan of Maneri Bala and Nural Zaman of Pirtab village said at present the entire families of the farmers worked from dawn to dusk, harvesting, threshing and taking grain from the field and making ricks.

Said Bacha, a farmer of Shagai village, said in case of rain they could suffer big financial loss as the grain were damaged.

Khalid Khan, a farmer associated with Kisan Board, said that the growers were under pressure and they had focused on securing their wheat crop while leaving aside all other tasks.
