HYDERABAD, Oct 22: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jameel has said that he has asked the DCO to prepare proposals for submission to the Sindh government for upgradation of the Hyderabad district into a city district government.
He said that formation of CDG would lead to marginal increase in authority of the CDG to deal with matters of the entire district.
He was speaking at a news conference the district nazim’s secretariat here on Saturday.
He said that an emergency and crisis management department will be established in the district government to meet any emergency situation or natural calamity like earthquake, floods and fire.
He said that instructions had also been issued to carry out a detailed survey of dangerous buildings in the district.
He said officials had been asked to prepare statistics of earthmoving machinery available with different district government departments including the irrigation department as soon as possible to put the machinery in operation in case of any emergency.
Mr Jameel said that health and sanitation, improvement of sewerage and water supply system would be given top priority.
He said that unemployment was another major problem which had been haunting the people for the past many years.
To resolve the problem, he said, he had held detailed discussions with the provincial minister for industry and it had been agreed that a new industrial zone be established in Hyderabad without delay to generate jobs for jobless youths.
The nazim said that efforts would also be made to introduce cheap housing schemes for the middle and lower middle classes.
He pointed out that traffic jams in the city had created chaotic situation and he had witnessed a jungle of encroachments.
He said that with the cooperation of the people, these encroachments would be removed and the traffic system would be streamlined. He said that another problem to be tackled is the provision of quality transport to the citizens.
He said that in furtherance of this objective negotiations would be held with the transporters to cooperate with the district government to keep their vehicles in good condition and free from smoke.
He said that new vehicles running on CNG would also be purchased. He said that to provide proper health facilities to people, 17 ambulances have already been purchased for different hospitals and out of the fleet, three ambulances would be given to newly-crated district of Tando Allahyar, two ambulances to Tando Mohammad Khan and one ambulance to Matiari districts.
He said that 11 ambulances were meant for Hyderabad city out of which one would be loaned to Hilal-i-Ahmer for the time being.
The nazim said that playgrounds and parks were of no less importance and he had already held detailed discussions on the subject with ministers concerned.
He said playgrounds and parks would be made available for sports and recreation of the people and some playgrounds would be brought at the international level.
He said that to improve the sanitation system of the city elected councillors would go from door to door to create a civic sense among the people.
He said that long and short term strategy had been evolved in this regard and that a cleanliness week would be started from October 26.
Answering a question about the utilization of Hyderabad Development Package, Kanwar Jameel made it clear that this package was meant for 102 union councils of now defunct Hyderabad district.
He said the election was over and all differences have ended and that elected Awam Dost Panel candidates were also sitting in the district council as well as taluka councils and union councils.
DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed, City Taluka Nazim Javed Jabbar and Latifabad Taluka Nazim Sabir Kaimkhani were present on the occasion.
