KURRAM: Clashes between the protesters and personnel of the law enforcement agencies left eight people wounded in Sadda town of Kurram tribal district on Saturday.

Officials said a mob attacked the offices of the district administration in the town, which is located some 20 kilometres east of Parachinar, the district headquarters of Kurram.

The protesters pelted stones at the offices, forcing the law enforcers to open fire.

Haji Saifullah, a local elder, said the protesters were heading towards the main bazaar when the Frontier Corps personnel started firing to stop them at a checkpost.

The district administration officials said the firing left eight people injured, with three in critical condition, who were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Thall garrison.

A curfew has been imposed in the Sadda town with cell phone signals and internet services suspended. However, the main highway has been kept open for heavy and light traffic.

Sources said negotiations between the administrative officials and the elders, including parliamentarians, were in progress to restore normalcy to the town.
