LAHORE: The long-absent horseracing entertainment in Lahore is all set to resume with a card of seven races — featuring two cup events — expected to go through at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

The Islamabad Cup and trainer Haji Ghulam Sarwar Memorial Cup will be highlight of the card that marks the resumption of the equine sports activity in the Punjab metropolis after it was halted by lockdown due the surge in the third wave of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic since the middle of March.

The Islamabad Cup, a Class VII Division I handicap race to be contested over 1,000 metres, has a field of good sprinters of whom three are good on form.

The Haji Ghulam Sarwar Memorial Cup has as many as 11 runners, who are all maidens. This event will be decided over a distance of 900 metres.

While the opening four races will be run over a distance of 900 metres, the remaining three will be contested over 1,000 metres.
