KARACHI: Rangers and police on Sunday jointly conducted an intelligence-based action in New Karachi and detained a man over his alleged involvement in extortion cases.

A Rangers spokesperson identified the held suspect as Zubair Ahmed alias Taj Mohammed. He said he was a member of a most-wanted gang of extortionists.

The suspect had demanded Rs500,000 as extortion from a trader in New Karachi on May 17. Over non-payment of the money, he threatened the trader that he would kidnap his son.

The trader approached the Rangers helpline, who took action and arrested the suspect.

The Rangers handed over the suspect to police for further legal action.
