Poultry association premises searched

ISLAMABAD: In continuation of poultry sector inquiry, the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) on Monday carried out search and inspection of Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) premises for its suspected involvement in cartelisation and anti-competitive activities.
Two different teams of the CCP entered and searched the premises of PPA. The association and its members extended full cooperation to the CCP and gave access to the print and electronic record.
Important information, including minutes of the meetings of PPA and computer-stored information of PPA and its members, was impounded.
The CCP took notice of a drastic increase in the prices of various poultry products, including broiler chicken, table eggs, and day-old broiler chicks and started an inquiry.
The CCP noted that from March 2020 to May 2021, poultry rices experienced a rise of 110 per cent, reaching Rs325 per kg for live chicken.
Similarly, egg prices too saw a rising trend from March 2020 to May 2021, rising by 42pc, touching a peak of Rs197.76 per dozen in December 2020.
It came to the CCP’s knowledge that PPA has been involved in the communication of egg prices.
