CHAGAI: Drinking water scarcity is increasing in Dalbandin, the headquarters of mineral-rich Chagai district, as a major depletion in underground water has been observed at the main water supply source in Siyah Jangal area, some 8 kilometres away from Dalbandin.

Addressing a press conference at his office, the Executive Engineer of the Public Health Engineering (PHE), Abdul Rauf Qambrani, said water level in the main source was reduced by 30 feet during the one year period which caused shortage in supply against needs of people in the city.

While explaining other reasons,

Mr Qambrani particularly mentioned the drought-like situation causing constant depletion in underground water and said his department had already started work on an alternative source in Pizoi area, some 40 kilometres away from Dalbandin.

He said the PHE was meeting almost 50 per cent need for the drinking water by supplying 300,000 gallons per day to citizens.
