PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has expressed its serious concern over the financial crunch being faced by the public sector universities and asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to allocate sufficient funds for taking the higher educational institutions out of the financial crisis.
Speaking at the protest camp of Peshawar University Employees here on Friday, PML-N provincial president Amir Muqam assured full support to the teachers and other employees on part of his party and said that despite its tall claims Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf had failed to improve the quality of education in the country.
Condemning police action against the protesting teachers and other employees of universities in Peshawar, he said that the PTI government was least bothered to materialise its election manifesto.
He said the government had been focusing only on victimisation of its political opponents in the name of accountability.
Mr Muqam said that it was duty of the government to release appropriate funds to all public sector universities to ensure timely payment of salaries and improvement of other facilities.
He said that Imran Khan as opposition leader had always pointed fingers at Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif, but now his government was unable to launch any mega development scheme in the country.
He said that on the one hand price hike had made lives of the people miserable, on the other the employees were facing problems like pay cuts, delay in salaries, etc.
He said that in case the issues of educational institutions were not resolved at the earliest the students’ future would be at stake.
Mr Muqam said that his party would extend full support to the employees in their struggle for acceptance of their genuine demands.
