KHYBER: Khyber district police officer Wasim Riaz on Saturday handed over appointment letters to the sons of four martyred policemen.

A ceremony to this effect was held at the police training centre in Shah Kas area of Jamrud A statement issued from the DPO office said the recruitment of the sons of policemen who died in the line of duty in Khyber was the first of its kind in any tribal district after the region’s merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa three years ago.

It said that more young and qualified sons of the martyred policemen would be recruited in the Khyber police once their scrutiny was completed.

“The step is taken to compensate the families of the martyred policemen,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, another notification issued from the DPO office said all the police personnel in Khyber would gradually start wearing regular police uniform instead of the existing Khasadar uniform, which comprises shalwar kameez.

In a separate notification, the DPO barred all the retired Khasadar and Levies personnel from performing any official responsibilities at any police station.

The notification said none of the former Khasadar or Levies officials would be allowed to take up any official responsibilities till a final verdict came from the Peshawar High Court where a number of appeals filed by the retired personnel have been pending for hearing.
