ISLAMABAD: With around 420,000 people having been completely or partially vaccinated in the federal capital, health authorities are aiming to administer 25,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine daily.

On the other hand, Islamabad reported 74 more cases with the positivity rate falling to 1.5pc whereas Rawalpindi district saw two patients succumbing to the virus and another 28 getting infected. As many as 55 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering.

Talking to Dawn, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia said the capital administration was focusing on vaccination so that herd immunity could be achieved at the earliest.

“As many as 420,000 people have been vaccinated. There can be up to 1.2 million people who are still not vaccinated in the city and we initially want to vaccinate 80pc of them. The positivity of cases has dropped to 1.5pc which shows that we are on the right track,” he said, adding that a large number of people could be reluctant to get vaccinated due to several reasons so a strategy has been prepared to inoculate them.

“We have been involving members of the National Assembly from Islamabad including Asad Umar, Raja Khurram Nawaz and Ali Awan. Besides, religious scholars are also being contacted to convince masses that they should be vaccinated at the earliest,” he said.

Earlier, the DHO had tweeted that besides setting up over 25 vaccination centres, efforts were being made to establish camps in universities, malls, offices to vaccinate as many people as possible.

Replying to a question, he said the target was to vaccinate around 25,000 people daily.

Rawalpindi

Two persons fell victim to Covid-19 in the district.

The deceased were identified as Irshad Bibi, 80, resident of the city area, who was brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on June 5.

She breathed her last on Sunday morning. Zaiba Bibi, 58, a resident of Murree,

was also brought to Pims on June 5 but could not survive.

In Rawalpindi district, there are 436 active patients.

As many as 56 are in hospitals including 30 patients who arrived from other districts and 380 patients are home isolated; 720 people are waiting for the results of their Covid-19 serology.

A total of 21 patients are from the garrison city including five patients from cantonment, five from Potohar Town and11 from Rawal Town areas.

As many as 21 patients are admitted in Holy Family Hospital, 11 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 17 in Rawalpindi institute of Urology (RIU), 17 in Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH), two patients at Bilal Hospital and one patient at Hearts International Hospital.

There are five patients on ventilators in Rawalpindi, 44 are on oxygen support and 20 are stable.

As the district continues to see a significant decline in the number of cases reported on a daily basis, no one was diagnosed with the disease on Sunday.

According to official data of the district health department, positivity rate in the district during the current month is 3pc, derived from the total number of samples collected every day. Five people were tested positive on June 1, one on June 2, four on June 3, one on June 4 and two on June 5.

District Focal Person for Covid-19 Dr Kashif Hussain said that the number of active patients in the district is 86 out of which 82 are home isolated while others are hospitalised.

Three suspected patients are also admitted in District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital out of whom, one is in critical condition.

He said the number of suspected patients reported in the district, since the beginning of the pandemic is 36,394 while screening of 39,646 people was carried out across the district out of which 32,802 were tested negative.

Responding to a question, he said the results of 1,395 suspected patients are awaited.

So far 2,070 people have recovered from the virus in the district. Safe burials of 128 patients have been carried out across the district.

While giving details about them, Dr Hussain said 41 Covid-19 patients died inside the district, 52 deaths of confirmed Covid-19 patients were reported in out-of-district hospitals while 35 deaths of suspected Covid-19 patients were reported in district hospitals. — Additional reporting by Amjad Iqbal
