ISLAMABAD: Islamabad and Rawalpindi district are witnessing a decline in the positivity rate of Covid-19 cases as 65 people tested positive in the capital against 4,370 tests conducted whereas 28 were diagnosed with the disease in Pindi against 1,164 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate in Islamabad was 1.4pc and 1.8pc in Pindi. On Wednesday, 151 patients also recovered, officials said, adding that the capital has 2,767 active cases of the virus. No casualties were reported in both cities.

The District Health Office traced 311 contacts of the 40 cases, reported on Tuesday, they said, adding that 137 contacts of 10 positive cases in the 21-30 age group, 77 contacts of five cases in the 31-55 age group, 59 contacts of three cases in the 11-20 age group, 16 contacts of 12 cases in the age group of 40-60, 11 contacts of six cases in the age group of 61-80, and 11 contacts of four cases in the age group of 0-10 were traced.

Samples were collected from them and sent for testing, they said adding, that all the positive cases were isolated and the contacts were quarantined.

On Tuesday, 11 patients of Covid-19 were hospitalised in the capital.

Rawalpindi

District Health Officer Dr Jawad Zahid told Dawn that the positivity rate had fallen since last week, adding, it was below 2pc for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.

People should adopt safety measures despite the reduced number of patients reported in health facilities, he said, adding in order to be safe from the virus, people should improve their diet so the immune system becomes stronger.

He said during the last 24 hours, 968 samples were collected and 18 people tested positive while health teams traced their close contacts and found 10 more positive cases among 196 contacts. On Wednesday, 50 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery.

In Rawalpindi district, there are 332 active patients. As many as 74 patients are in hospitals including 25 who arrived from other districts and 283 patients are home isolated. As many as 720 patients are waiting for the results of their Covid-19 serology. As many as 28 patients are from the garrison city including seven from cantonment, seven patients arrived from Potohar Town and two from Rawal Town.

Eight patients are admitted in Holy Family Hospital (HFH), 13 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 12 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU), 14 patients in Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH) and one patient at Hearts International Hospital.
