Russia gives go-ahead to rice import from Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Russia has lifted a ban on import of rice from Pakistan.
Based on the guidelines, Russia has allowed import of rice from four Pakistani enterprises from Friday (today).
The decision was based on implementation of phytosanitary measures proposed by the Ministry of Food Security Department of Plant Protection (DPP) of Quarantine Division.
Russia had carried out inspection in February last year.
Trade Minister Pakistan Embassy Russia Nasir Hameed took up the issue with the host country and pursued the matter with the Russian authorities.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Food Security said that Deputy Director Technical Quarantine of DPP Sohail Shahzad had been negotiating with Russia for the past year for lifting of ban on import of rice from Pakistan.
The department also provided Russia all requisite technical information, assurances on Pakistan Plant Quarantine system, pest surveillance and control programme in rice-growing areas and rice establishments.
Initially, four rice establishments — two from Karachi, one from Lahore and one from Chiniot — have been approved by NPPO Russia for import of rice from Pakistan.
The permission to other rice units shall be subject to virtual verification by the plant quarantine division of DPP.

Pakistan rice is rarely seen in US markets these days. The standard & quality measures reported in article are equally acceptable in USA. The lion share in imported rice is taken by Indian exporters. The Pakistanis exporters are welcomed to reconnect the US buyers, for good business.

or atleast the figure must not less than 1 billion dollar.
But as they are going to de-dollarise their country so may be the payments will not be in dollars i guess.

Is it the same rice with IK got as a charity from Saudi Arabia? Just asking as IK Government is famous in doing that as they have done with Covid related (Mask , Sanitizer etc) donation from China and export them to US....IK Pakistani People are not fools they will answer you very soon...

This is very exceptional and rare case that an officer of our embassy took so much interest and pains to convince the host country to buy our rice though generally speaking hardly our diplomats strive so hard and therefore few weeks back PM Imran showed his annoyance for such lethargic attitude of our diplomats. I recommend that he be issued at least a commendation certificate recognizing his efforts. I wish other diplomats posted all over the globe do the same. zaidi4merdiplomat@hotmail.com

Foreign market shelves used to be full of Pakistani products and were highly valued before but slowly we lost everything. First time, now under PTI, in mid east and elsewhere, Pakistani products are making their way back on to the shelves.

Under pretext of COD, they inserted 18th amendment, that let them loot without checks. This is what is hampering PTI government fixing sind etc.
