KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and police jointly carried out intelligence-based actions in Patel Para and other parts of the metropolis and detained 15 suspected drug peddlers and one street criminal, said a spokesperson for the paramilitary force.

Rangers and police jointly launched a crackdown on drug peddlers and detained 15 suspects in the city.

“The held suspects were involved in sale of drugs and illegal arms on a large scale and other heinous crimes,” said the spokesperson.

Over 57 kilogramme hashish (charas), over one kilogramme heroin, 780 gram crystal and 332 gram ‘ice’ were seized from them.

Along with the seized drugs, arms and ammunition, the suspects were handed over to the police for further legal action.

‘Most wanted street criminal’

A suspect, Aqeel Ahmed, alias Kasora detained from Patel Para was described by the spokesperson of the paramilitary force as a “most-wanted dacoit”.

“He was involved in over 200 street crimes and other dacoities in different parts of the metropolis,” added the officer.

A stolen motorbike was recovered from his possession.

In April, Aqeel Ahmed along with his accomplices snatched a mobile phone and cash from a citizen in PECHS and he could be seen in the closed-circuit television camera footage.

During initial probe, he confessed that he also had been arrested in the past and sent to prison several times and was a habitual criminal.

Efforts were under way to arrest his accomplices. He was handed over to the police along with seized motorbike for further legal action.
