HYDERABAD, Oct 25: The Mini-Taxi Workers’ Union staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Tuesday in protest against what they said murderous attack on the president of the union, Waqar Hyder.

Speaking on the occasion, the general secretary of the union, Mohammad Naqi and other office-bearers including Mohammad Ibrahim, Aijaz Mohammad Zaman and Mohammad Ashraf said that the extortionists had fired on Waqar Hyder in the market area on Monday.

They said that the incident occurred when the outlaws demanded money from taxi-drivers and some hot words were exchanged between the criminals and Waqar Hyder.

They said that the extortionists resorted to firing in which Waqar was injured.

They said an FIR was registered at Market police station but the accused have not been arrested.

They demanded the immediate arrest of the assailants.

NAZIM: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed the revenue officers of the district to accelerate revenue generating activities entrusted to them and to convert Hyderabad into a rich district of the province.

He was speaking at a briefing about functioning of the revenue department in the district at the district nazim secretariat here on Monday.

EDO revenue Abdul Sattar Jatto briefed the disrict nazim on the performance of his department.

Speaking on the occasion, the Zila Nazim said that there were many Acts and Ordinances under which revenue officers have been entrusted with the powers of the Commissioner not only to protect the proprietary rights of the people, and introduce land reforms and colonization of government land but also to collect land revenue.

He said proper utilization of powers by revenue officers could bring effective social reforms in the society. He asked the officers to do justice with the people while exercising appellate authority in revenue matters as it will also prevent crime.

He said to meet National Calamities, Removal of encroachments, chanallization of agriculture loans, land improvement loans and land acquisition were the additional assignments of the revenue officers for welfare of the society.

He stressed that Revenue Department has to play a vital role in social reforms.

About Gothabad Scheme, the Zila Nazim said that this was a major task for revenue officers and directed them to conduct survey of all villages in the district so that not only “SANADS” (right of ownership) could be issued to occupants but same should also be included in development programmes of the district.

He said that the district government was planning to provide basic facilities to all inhabitants of the district without any discrimination as such availability of actual socio-economic data of the district was very essential.

Discussing the assets of defunct District Council Hyderabad and its income from various shopping centres, the district nazim directed the officers to collect records of assets for the benefit of the people.

Earlier, EDO revenue Abdul Sattar Jatto briefed the nazim about jurisdictions, job descriptions and new set-up of District Revenue administration.

He informed that out of net demand of Rs.1,66,06,094/-, revenue recovery of Rs.1,53,85,016/- has been achieved during 2004-2005.

He also informed that as many as 847-03 acres of government land were available for periodical lease, while 83-04 acres for permanent lease.

He said that out of 657 villages in the district, survey of 281 villages of taluka Hyderabad (Rural), 16 of taluka Qasimabad, 20 of Taluka Latifabad and one village of Taluka Hyderabad City has been conducted.
