HYDERABAD, Oct 25: The Hyderabad Hindu Panchayat and Hindu students held a demonstration outside the press club in protest against murder of a businessman of Umerkot, Ram Maheshwari.

Speaking on the occasion, Mahesh Malani, M. Parkash advocate and Sunil Kumar said that excesses and injustices against the Hindu community were increasing with each passing day.

They said that the Hindu community was feeling insecure.

They said that police had arrested the accused but some influential people were trying to protect them.

They demanded that the murderers of Ram Maheshwari be awarded deterrent punishment and the Hindu community be provided protection.

SECRETARY: The Sindh agriculture secretary has ordered suspension of a field assistant, agriculture extension Tharu Shah, Naushahro Feroze district, on his failure to provide extension services and guidance to farmers of the area.

A spokesman for the directorate of the agriculture information, Sindh, in a statement issued here on Thursday said that the action was initiated after receiving a complaint from a grower, Mr Abdul Rashid Bhan, of Nawaz Bhan village, Bhirya city, in complaints cell in the monitoring wing of the department of Karachi.

The grower had also complained that the concerned field assistant’s house had been illegally occupied by some other person, and that for the last 13 year no services have been provided by the field assistant.

The secretary also ordered that the illegal occupation of the FA house may be got vacated immediately.

The spokesman said that the secretary established a complaints cell in this respect in office of the director planning and monitoring cell, block-53, Pak Secretariat, Karachi with phone No.021-9203300 and fax No.021-9203372, where growers can send their complaints.

All growers have been advised to send their complaints on this address.

In a separate directive, the secretary agriculture instructed that apart from performing field duties, the field assistants and agriculture officers should attend to the technical problems of and provide guidance to growers at the offices of union councils on every Tuesday and Thursday.

The secretary directed that check points might be established at the borders to restrict entry and sale of unapproved seed of wheat from Punjab.

The approved varieties of wheat in Sindh, according to the spokesman are TJ-83, Anmol, TD-1, Sarsabz, Kiran, Marvi, Bhittai, Abadgar, Mehran and Soghat.

In a directive to the agriculture research wing, which is supervising Foundation Cell Seed, the secretary said that good and approved wheat varieties, for early and late sowing, may be promoted and publicised to the growers so that wheat target of the ensuing year is achieved.

He directed that basic seed should be provided to registered private seed companies having good previous track record for multiplication and certification in a transparent manner and a sound public and private partnership be developed in the seed sector.

The institutions like Sindh Agriculture University and Sindh Seed Corporation, he said, also be supported in seed multiplication.

The directive calls for steps to obtain and store sufficient seed of cotton and paddy from the existing crop for sowing during next year, and to explore possibility of import of hybrid seed of sunflower and other crops through partnership with private seed companies and growers associations.
