KHYBER: Thirty-four Pakistanis tested positive for coronavirus on return from Afghanistan via Torkham border here on Tuesday.

Health officials at the Pak-Afghan Dosti Hospital in Torkham told Dawn that all infected people were quarantined at the District Headquarters Hospital in Landi Kotal.

Pakistan has made coronavirus testing mandatory for all its citizens returning from Afghanistan via Torkham border.

The border has been closed to pedestrians since May 8.

However, Pakistani and Afghan nationals, who got stranded on either side of the border due to the pandemic-induced restrictions, have been allowed to return to their respective countries.

The pedestrian movement was restricted to stem the spread of coronavirus from across the border.
