PUBLIC SPACES

PUBLIC SPACES: The Defence Housing Authority Phase II, located between the Grand Trunk Road and Islamabad Highway, is a concrete jungle devoid of green spaces and parks. Some of the available spaces are either in bad shape or being converted to plots for commercial purposes. The DHA administration has only capitalised on its brand name and has done nothing to ensure quality of town planning. The administration must wake up to what is happening under its watch.

CAPITAL LOADSHEDDING: Despite official claims to the contrary, the residents of Kurri Road in Islamabad face power outages of up to six hours due to ‘technical fault’ every day. At times, voltage gets so low that even ceiling fans stop working. The cost of electricity increases frequently, but the supply remains erratic. Can some official explain what is going on? The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) must get rid of its faulty transformers, and rather transform itself for the better.

STUCK IN LIMBO: The future of 235 candidates hangs in limbo as the Sindh High Court has cancelled the results of combined competitive examination-2018 (CCE-18) which was conducted by the Sindh Public Service Commission. Previously, the result of CCE-13 had been declared null and void. The candidates need to know why do they have to sffer for no fault of their own. I hope justice will prevail soon.

LION’S DEATH: The recent death of a lion in Karachi Zoo is saddening. Lions are carnivorous animals that run to hunt their prey. They are created to live in the wild; not in captivity. The zoo in Karachi lacks facilities and efficient staff to take proper care of these wild creatures. The zoo needs well-trained zoo-keepers to take care of the inhabitants. And the administration must be vigilant about animals’ hygiene, food, health and living conditions.
