HYDERABAD, Oct 26: HDA Labour Union (CBA) has expressed resentment over the non-payment of three months’ salaries to the employees. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the general secretary of the union, Mohammad Yousuf, has appealed to the Sindh governor, finance minister and adviser to the chief minister for local bodies to order the release of employees’ salaries without any further delay.

He said that the Sindh government has issued clear orders that all government employees should be paid their salaries by October 27 at the latest to enable them to celebrate Eid in a befitting manner.

He, however, regretted that HDA employees had neither received their salaries for the last three months, nor overtime and uniforms.

The union leader said that various government departments owed millions of rupees to the HDA in the shape of water charges and if they could pay just one instalment, the employees would be able to get their outstanding dues.

He severely criticized the insensitivity of the authorities terming it a conspiracy against newly-elected local governments.

He demanded that the employees should be paid all outstanding dues before Eidul Fitr.

ANTI-LABOUR POLICIES: The non-CBA union of the “Authority” namely the HDA employees union has also condemned the anti-labour policies of HDA.

In a joint statement, the president of the union, Khamiso Khan Jatoi, its general secretary, Bahram Chang, and other union leaders said that it was due to the inefficiency of the HDA that its employees were starving, the sewerage system had collapsed and the citizens were without any drinking water.

They said that the Sindh governor and the federal government had released Rs300 -Rs400 million to the HDA, but the authority had failed to do any development work during the last two and a half years and had even deprived the employees of their legal dues.

They warned that if the salaries of the employees were not released before Eidul Fitr, they would resort to protest and would not perform their duties on Eid day.

ARREST: The Hali Road police have arrested one Arshad from the Badin bus stop late Tuesday night and allegedly recovered a Kalashnikov and an explosive substance weighing 400 grams from his possession.

Police has registered two separate cases under the Arms Ordinance and Anti-Terrorism Act against the alleged accused.

He was produced in the relevant court of law on Wednesday and remanded to seven-day police custody.
