FAISALABAD: Police recovered the body of a newborn girl from a drain on Tuesday after her addict uncle allegedly threw her into a drain in Tandlianwala on Monday.

Suspect Asghar, a resident of Mubarakpura, demanded his family to give him money for buying heroin. But the family refused to do that. As revenge, he picked his 15-day-old niece, Dua Fatima, who was asleep on top floor of the house, and threw her into the nearby drain.

A non-speaking woman of the family tried to tell them with signs that Asghar had taken the infant girl. However, the family ignored her signs.

The City Tandlianwala police were called whose SHO questioned the family but could not get any leads. They said police asked the family and the locals to search for the girl near the drain and her father found her body in it. Police arrested Asghar.
