GUJAR KHAN: Meat in several areas of Gujar Khan is being sold at exorbitant rates as meat sellers continue to openly violate official prices set by the Rawalpindi administration.
According to details, the official prices of mutton and beaf (per kilogramme) are Rs800 and Rs400 but at some meat shops, they are being sold at Rs1,000 and Rs500-600.
While talking to Dawn, Mohammad Bashir said most sellers do not display the rate list issued by the market committee and sell meat at their desired rates. Many butchers also inject water into the animal’s body while slaughtering it in order to increase its weight which affects the quality of meat, he said.
Meat buyers in different areas of Gujar Khan including Gujar Khan city, Daultala, Mandra, Bewal, Jabbar and Guliyana said that butchers consider the rate list issued by market committee a “piece of scrap”.
Residents of the areas said that the performance and writ of local price control committees has been exposed as meat sellers are openly violating official prices set the administration. They have urged commissioner (Rawapindi Division) and chief minister Punjab to take notice of the issue and make sure that meat is sold at the official prices set by the government.es.
