ISLAMABAD: Two policemen were injured during an encounter with gunmen in G-11/1, Dawn has learnt.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Dr Mustafa Tanveer said one of the gunmen was also injured but he managed to escape, while the other two were arrested.

The condition of the injured policemen is stable and they are out of danger, he added.

Earlier, the suspects had conducted a raid at a house in G-11/1 and held the residents up at gunpoint, Dr Tanveer said, adding that they had detained the family in a portion of the house.

After getting information, police reached the spot and cordoned the area.

Seeing police, the suspects tired to escape and opened fire at police; one of them was holding two pistols in his hand.

Two of them were arrested but the third suspect kept firing gunshots at police which resulted in two policemen sustaining bullet injuries. The third suspect managed to escape.

Shortly, the injured policemen - Constable Mohammad Arshad and Constable Mohammad Saqlain - were shifted to the hospital for medical assistance, the SSP said, adding that the arrested robbers were shifted to the police station for further legal procedure and investigation.

A team was constituted in response to information given by the arrested robbers, he said, adding that raids are being conducted to arrest the third suspect.
