KOHAT: The police on Monday recovered a teenage girl, who was kidnapped a few days ago from the city, and arrested three abductors.

Kohat police station SHO Amjid Khan said the 14-year-old girl was taken away by the accused, enticing her to take her on a trip to Lahore.

He said the girl had been sent to the women crisis centre.

The SHO said the girl’s father had reported to the police that his daughter had gone missing from her house.

“We constituted a team that raided a house and recovered the victim. The accused, Yousuf, Iqbal alias Balo and Yasir, have also been taken into custody,” the SHO said.

He said a case of kidnapping was registered against them.

TRAFFIC SIGNALS RESTORED: Traffic signals across the Kohat city have been restored to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the roads and prevent accidents.

Tehsil municipal officer Mohammad Shoeb said since their installation four years ago the traffic signals remained dysfunctional, as a result of which, they had developed faults.

He said a contractor had been hired to fix the signals.

In-charge traffic warden Arab Jan told Dawn that the traffic signals often had to be shut due to absence of a control room, narrow roads, and neglect by the drivers.

He said the traffic police had started a campaign to raise awareness among drivers about respecting the traffic signals.

Also in the day, the cantonment police arrested a number of students for blocking the main road during a protest against the decision of the Kohat Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education to hold in-person matriculation examinations.

The students of Army Public School, Saint Joseph and a private school gathered at the Martyrs’ Square and blocked the traffic while chanting slogans against the decision.

They said as the classes were held online, the exams should also be conducted online.

The police later released the students on the intervention of chairman district development advisory committee MPA Ziaullah Bangash.
