TAXILA: A court in Attock awarded death sentence to a man for murdering a nine-year-old girl.
Noman Sultan, a resident of Kot Fateh Khan in the limits of Fatehjang police, gunned down the girl in Pagh village over a petty dispute on October 13, 2020.
The police registered a case and later arrested the man besides recovering the weapon used in the murder.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the convict to be paid as compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased. The convict was employed as a domestic worker at the house of the deceased when he killed her.
Smugglers arrested
The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) on Tuesday thwarted a bid to smuggle arms and ammunition and arrested two suspects near Hassanabdal.
According to the motorway police spokesperson Saqib Waheed, police officials were on a routine patrolling when they spotted a suspicious car parked on the side lane of Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1) near Burhan Interchange.
When the police reached the spot, they found two persons acting suspiciously in the car. During a search, the police recovered three rifles, 24 magazines and eight pistols along with 4,078 live rounds from the car.
According to an initial investigation, the suspects were members of an inter-provincial gang of arms smugglers and were attempting to smuggle the arms to Rajanpur from Peshawar.
The arrested persons and the weapons were handed over to the Hassanabdal police.
