The court also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the convict to be paid as compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased. The convict was employed as a domestic worker at the house of the deceased when he killed her.

Smugglers arrested

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) on Tuesday thwarted a bid to smuggle arms and ammunition and arrested two suspects near Hassanabdal.

According to the motorway police spokesperson Saqib Waheed, police officials were on a routine patrolling when they spotted a suspicious car parked on the side lane of Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1) near Burhan Interchange.

When the police reached the spot, they found two persons acting suspiciously in the car. During a search, the police recovered three rifles, 24 magazines and eight pistols along with 4,078 live rounds from the car.

According to an initial investigation, the suspects were members of an inter-provincial gang of arms smugglers and were attempting to smuggle the arms to Rajanpur from Peshawar.

The arrested persons and the weapons were handed over to the Hassanabdal police.
