LAHORE: Two women were suffocated to death while as many others injured when a fire erupted at a two-storey girls’ hostel on Raiwind Road on Wednesday.

The fire erupted on the second floor of the hostel near Safari Park and spread to other floors.

The rescue teams put out the fire after an effort of two hours or so and recovered two women dead while as many others were injured.

The injured were shifted to Jinnah Hospital where the bodies were taken to the morgue.

Meanwhile, firefighters Waqas and Adeel also suffered burns. The injured were said to be stable.

Chief Minister Usman Buzdar took notice of the fire incident in the hostel and expressed grief over the death of the two women.

He sought a report from the commissioner and the CCPO and also directed them to conduct a probe into the incident.

cylinder blast: Three children and their mother were injured when the roof of a house caved in due to a cylinder blast in Nishtar Colony.

The blast occurred in the Hajipura area due to the gas leakage during cooking in the morning. The roof of the house also caved in due to the blast and a woman and her three children suffered injuries.

Rescuers put off the fire and pulled out the children and their mother and shifted them to a nearby hospital.

The injured were identified as Mumtaz, 50, his son Shahbaz, 15, and daughters Ramsha, 13, and Amna, 16.

ROAD ACCIDENT: Two men were killed in road accidents in different areas of the city on Wednesday.

In the first incident, motorcyclist Aziz was hit by a mini truck in Kahna.

The victim died on the spot while the driver fled the scene.

In the second incident, an unidentified man was killed while crossing the railway track near Nagar Phattak in Kahna.

Police shifted the bodies to the morgue and started investigation.
