KARACHI: Naeem Ahmed, a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London, died in judicial custody on Saturday, according to officials.

He was arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department on May 28 and was confined at the Karachi central prison.

Eidgah SHO Nadeem Hyder said that Ahmed, 65, was sent from prison to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital in critical condition but he died before reaching the emergency section of the hospital.

The SHO while quoting the jail officials said that he was suffering from lung problems. A source in medico-legal section of the hospital said that they were informed about the death at around 10.10am. Doctors waited for the heirs, who reportedly lived in Hyderabad. A post-mortem examination was not carried out as the relatives did not come and the police took the body to the morgue.

The CTD had arrested Ahmed, Imran Ahmed and Aleemuddin and claimed that they were linked to a group trained by Indian intelligence agency RAW.

“Naeem Ahmed is a senior worker of the party in Hyderabad, who is also a joint in-charge of the Sindh Organising Committee,” the CTD had said.
