HYDERABAD, Oct 28: Sindh PPP President Syed Qaim Ali Shah praised the efforts of local office-bearers of the PPP in colleting relief goods for earthquake victims.
He met the office-bearers at the residence of Iqbal Soomro, the zonal president of the party.
Mr Shah said the Sindh chapter of the party had so far sent goods worth Rs700 million for earthquake victims.
He advised the party cadre to celebrate Eid in a simple manner.
The PPP president said the government had failed to provide adequate relief to the affected people.
He criticized foreign and domestic policies of the government and said that only Benazir Bhutto could steer the country out of the current crisis.
Earlier, he was given a warm welcome by the party on arrival here on Friday.
Mr Shah went to the residence of Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo and offered condolences on the death of his wife, Zarina Baloch.
CLEANLINESS DRIVE: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that the district government has planned to distribute fifty thousand dustbins in the first phase of the cleanliness drive.
He was presiding over a meeting at his office on Thursday evening to review the campaign.
The nazim said that the district government had prepared a comprehensive plan to make the campaign successful.
The plan would be implemented in phases, he said.
In the first phase, garbage and waste materials would be removed from the city.
Apart from this, 50,000 dustbins would also be distributed among the citizens of the district.
He asked the taluka nazims to identify places in their respective talukas from where the garbage would be removed.
Mr Jamil said that UC-4 and six of Latifabad, UC-13 and 17 of the Hyderabad city, UC-2 of the Qasimabad taluka and UC-11 of Tando Jam of the Hyderabad rural taluka have been declared model areas during the ongoing cleanliness drive.
He said in the second phase, the same practice would continue and some more steps would be taken for the establishment of landfill site outside the city and the use of abandoned areas for parks and playgrounds.
He said the working efficiency of government functionaries would be improved in the third phase of the campaign to convert the cleanliness drive into a permanent feature.
Hyderabad City taluka Nazim Javed Jabbar, Latifabad taluka Nazim Sabir Hussain, Qasimabad taluka Nazim Noor Mohammad Shoro and Hyderabad rural taluka Nazim Khawand Bux Jahijo participated in the discussion.
They assured the nazim that they would participate fully in the implementation of the plan of the district government.
Earlier, the nazim went to various parts of the Latifabad taluka to review the ongoing sanitation work. Talking to people in the UC-4 of Latifabad, the nazim said that the district government would strengthen the union councils financially to enable them to provide basic facilities to people at their doorsteps.
He said the management of the cantonment board and the HDA had also been asked to participate in the cleanliness drive.
He stressed upon women to participate actively in the cleanliness drive.
Mr Jamil also asked the teaching community to play their role in creating awareness among the people.
He stressed upon the print and electronic media to encourage the cleanliness drive and create awareness among people about its importance.
Others who were also present on the occasion were UC Nazim Sabbir Hussain, UC Nazim Ghulam Rasool Samoo and MQM’s zonal in-charge Siraj Rajput.
