RAWALPINDI: As many as 15 people were diagnosed with the delta variant of Covid-19 in the Rawalpindi district, said Divisional Commissioner Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah on Thursday.

He asked the health authority to take precautionary measures and urged the citizens to get themselves vaccinated as soon as possible to avoid further spread of the virus.

“All government employees should submit their vaccination certificate by July 15 otherwise their salaries will be stopped,” he stated this at a meeting held to review the Covid-19 situation.

On the other hand, the health authorities recommended smart lockdown in 10 localities of Rawalpindi district from where the delta variant cases have been reported.

These areas are: Misrial Road, Adiala Road, Tench Bhatta, Gulshanabad, Dhoke Kashmirian, Amarpura, Khyaban-i-Sir Syed, Dhoke Dalal and Jalala Road, Taxila.

However, the district administration has not yet decided to take action as per recommendations of the provincial health authorities.

Meanwhile, three people died of the virus, including two from other districts. As many as 75 people tested positive and 13 patients were discharged from hospitals.

Nighat Shaheen, 52, a resident of Gujar Khan, was brought to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on July 7 where she died.

There are 348 active patients in the district - 92 in hospitals and 253 home isolated.

Of the new patients, 11 came from the cantonment, 34 from Potohar Town, 15 from Rawal Town, four each from Kahuta and Taxila, two each from Gujar Khan, Murree, Islamabad and one from KP.

Nine of the new patients were admitted in Holy Family Hospital, seven in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 13 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) and nine in Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH).

There is one patient on ventilator, 26 are on oxygen and 11 are stable.

Islamabad

The federal capital reported 104 new cases with the positivity rate of 3.63pc on Thursday.

Officials said during the last 24 hours 2,859 tests were conducted and 59 males and 45 females were found infected.

They said 25 cases were reported in the age group of 30-39, followed by 24 in 20-29, 16 in 0-9, 12 each in 40-49 and 50-59, eight in 60-69 and seven in 10-19.

Likewise, 10 cases were reported from G-7, nine from Loi Bher, seven each from G-11 and Alipur, five each from Bhara Kahu and Khanna, four from F-10, three each from G-10, Tarlai, I-10, F-11, Bari Imam, and Sihala, two each from G-9, I-8, Sohan, Koral, Chirrah, E-7 and F-15, and one each from G-6, Rawat, G-8, E-11, Kurri, F-6, F-7, Rawal Town, G-5 and H-13.

There are 1,267 active cases in the capital and 62 of them are admitted in hospitals, 57 are on oxygen and five on ventilators.

The other patients are isolated at their homes, they added.
