ELECTRONIC WASTE: Millions of electronic devices are sold around the world every day. These devices are responsible for producing electronic waste which disturbs land fertility. It is estimated that two million tonnes of electronic waste was dumped around the globe in 2014. Only 20 per cent of electronic devices are recycled globally, while 89pc turn into waste which can be an alarming threat to environment. The United Nations has to think of better ways to handle this waste to save environment.

VACCINE UNCERTAINTY: There are various Covid vaccines available in the country, but some of them are not recommended for those suffering from particular diseases. However, there are no testing services available before the jab. People must be informed and satisfied about the benefits of the vaccine.

INTER-BANK FUNDS TRANSFER: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has authorised the banks to charge inter-bank fund transfers (IBFTs). These charges are exorbitant and against the stated government policy of digitising the economy. Public will again be forced to resort to cash transactions. Banks already charge annual fee for using their digital/internet banking facility and now these charges will totally discourage the public. The SBP, instead of making transactions convenient for the public, seems to have joined hands with the greedy commercial banks to fleece the public. It should immediately cancel the charges and allow free transactions like before as banks charge annual fee in advance for the year.

REMEMBERING ANWAR IQBAL: Anwar Iqbal was a competent actor and a wonderful human being. He was a polite and soft-spoken Baloch who used to speak fine Urdu, perhaps one of the finest heard on television. For a long time we will not see the likes of him. May his soul rest in peace.
