HYDERABAD: A landowner, Umar Memon, who also runs a car business, was arrested on Friday on the charges of killing his wife, Quratul Ain alias Aini Buledi, at their home in Barrage Colony during the previous night.

The complainant alleged that his sister, mother of four, was beaten up and then throttled to death by Umar Memon. He claimed that there was a history of issues with Umar, who often subjected her to violence in the house.

The suspect is a son of a former irrigation secretary and his wife, in her late 30s, was sister of a forest official, Sanaullah Buledi, and had done her MBA. The murder case was registered at the Baldia police station.

Meanwhile, Women Action Forum activist Amar Sindhu pursued the case with police and got an FIR registered. She said Umar had often been “insulting” and beat her over different issues. Even while Aini had been staying with her parents, he subjected her to violence.

She claimed that Umar had also got some cheques signed by his wife.
