LAKKI MARWAT: Deputy commissioner Mohammad Zubair Niazi kicked off school enrolment and tree plantation drives in Bannu city on Friday.

He along with elementary and secondary school department officials and schools’ heads planted saplings on the premises of government high school No. 3

Speaking at a function on the occasion, Mr Niazi asked the people to send their children to school as getting education was their basic right.

Besides qualified teachers, the government schools offered free admissions and textbooks to students, he added.

The deputy commissioner said the government schools would be put on solar power.

He said the schools’ heads exhibiting good performance in the enrollment campaign would be rewarded with commendation certificates and cash prizes.

He asked teachers to engage students in tree plantation.

Also in the day, the district administration launched a Green Street initiative in Bannu city.

An official said the initiative was being implemented with the support of Water Supply and Sanitation Services Company.

“Under the programme, the company has sown ornamental and flower plants in Gopakhel Street,” said the official.

He said the company had also fixed dustbins and benches in the street.
