WITHOUT HELMET: This is with reference to the report ‘Motorbike riding without helmet banned on Sharea Faisal’ (July 11). The announcement is simply preposterous as it gives the impression that driving motorcycles elsewhere without helmets is legitimate. The only way to curb non-wearing of helmet is to increase the fine to Rs1,000, and the relevant police officer of the area where such violations take place repeatedly should be taken to task.

DILAPIDATED ROAD: The road between Khipro and Umarkot that connects Sanghar and Umarkot districts as well as areas between Kashmor and Karoojhar is in a dilapidated condition and has become a dead-point for travellers. The 80km road has not been repaired for more than a decade, resulting in frequent accidents and confining the traffic to private-sector vehicles whose charges have increased significantly. The authorities and representatives of the area should pay heed to public’s concerns in this regard.

SCHOOL BUILDING: The building of government primary school in Dinal Pirzado village of Naushahro Feroze can crumble anytime as it has not been repaired since its construction in 1998. The students, numbering around 200, were compelled to study under the sky owing to the condition of the building. Subsequently, their parents shifted them to private schools, and those who could not afford it, found it better to keep their children home rather than risking their lives. The government should immediately allocate funds for the re-construction of the school building.

CLIMATE CHANGE: The effects of climate change are visible around the globe, disturbing the ecological system and causing problems of various kinds. We can still minimise the effects of climate change by planting more trees and adopting an eco-friendly behaviour. That is the least we can do for our future generations.
