PESHAWAR: Flour millers have threatened that they will launch a protest campaign if the federal government does not ensure smooth wheat supply from Punjab to rest of the provinces within one week.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the central committee of the All Pakistan Flour Mills Association (APFMA) with the committee’s central chairman Badruddin Kakar in the chair, according to a statement issued here on Monday.

The meeting was also attended by APFMA’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter chairman Mohammad Naeem Butt, and the association’s heads from Punjab, Sindh and Blochistan, including Asim Raza, Haji Mohammad Yousaf and Abdul Wahid Warriach, and owners of flour mills.

The participants discussed the problems being faced by the millers across the country, saying they had raised the issue time and again at different forums but the relevant authorities were least bothered to pay attention.

They threatened to launch a vigorous protest movement to ensure uninterrupted wheat supply to mills across the country.

The flour millers expressed concern over low prices of flour against the high rates of wheat being provided by the government in the market.

On the occasion, Badruddin Kakar asked the members of the association to prepare proposals and present them for taking a future line of action.

The meeting asked for smooth wheat supply and equal rates of wheat and flour in the market.
